The president of the Pontifical Council Cor Unum, Cardinal Paul Joseph Cordes, inaugurated this morning the sample of volunteers, part of the VIII Conference on Charities and Volunteers organized by the UCAM.
During the inauguration, the cardinal said that "the Holy Father is very happy and very supportive of this university, so I wanted to be here to announce and explain the message of Lent."
Remarkably, also spoke at the opening ceremony the mayor of Murcia, Miguel Angel House, Social Policy Adviser, Women and Immigration, José Bascuñana, and the president of the UCAM, José Luis Mendoza.
On the other hand, it is worth noting that the Cardinal Cordes presided this morning at the Catholic University a Mass to mark the opening of this conference.
During the homily, the cardinal stressed the importance of fasting in this period of Lent as an aid to Christians to commune with God.
Also, at the conclusion of the Eucharist, the archbishop spoke of volunteerism as a "channel through which Christians can exercise charity" and as an instrument of evangelization for "young people and those who, attracted by the humanitarian work Church, are close to or participate in it and end up discovering Christ. "
