In 2008 the Community provided 586,287 euros in grants to the Foundation Trust Jesus Forsaken, whose premises (residence, employment workshops and social dining) visited today the Minister of Social Policy, Women and Migration, Joaquín Bascuñana, accompanied by general managers Pension Valuation and Inclusion Programs, John Brown, and Immigration and Volunteering, Leopoldo Navarro, and by the Foundation president, José Fernández.
During the past year, the Ministry through the Directorate General of Immigration and volunteering, he collaborated with the Foundation on various projects and campaigns, by providing 563,287 euros to finance health care programs, reception and integration of immigrants and as the center equipment.
Thanks to this grant has been a program host and humanitarian assistance to migrants from the Canary Islands, Ceuta and Melilla, and other specialized host of vulnerable immigrants, including accommodation, food and hygiene.
The Directorate General of Pensions, Assessment and Inclusion Programs IMAS contributed 23,000 euros that went to the occupational workshops for homeless people.
Also, last year the Department participated in the presentation of the Christmas Campaign of the Foundation, under the slogan 'I want to help' as well as in organizing charity painting exhibition 'Our greatest solidarity', which was raised € 14,000 that went to Jesus Forsaken, from the sale of 86 paintings.
For this year, one of the objectives of the Ministry is to promote volunteerism in the region with the celebration of National Volunteer XII Congress, which will bring citizens to the solidarity movement.
Currently, the Region is about 25,000 volunteers, distributed in 151 associations.

Appreciable increase stays
According to the Foundation, in 2008, the residence served a total of 3,206 people, equivalent to 40,665 rooms, 11,000 more than in 2007.
Regarding the social room with 144 seats, last year 4,069 people received food service, while between lunch and dinner are offered 120,000.

Currently, we serve about 550 meals a day, including lunch, dinner and bags, having established three shifts a day for lunch and afternoon.
