The Mayor of Murcia, Miguel Angel House today presented awards to the seventh edition of the National Competition "Premio Grandparents, convened by the Board of the Home for the Elderly" Bethany Home "and

designed to raise the figure of our elders and their validity in today's society.

The event was also attended by President of the board, Jose Escribano, and the councilman of Social Welfare Policy and Equality, María del Carmen Pelegrin.

The purpose of these awards, which have the cooperation of the City of Murcia, is to recognize individuals, groups or institutions which carry out work that revalue the figure of the older and bring to public light that attention through newspaper articles news and print media, radio, television or Internet.

The origin of this event came about in response to the problem faced by the society to care for the elderly, in many cases can be solved through an awareness campaign.

The prizes awarded in this seventh edition are as follows:

MORE ACTION FOR DEVELOPMENT Prize, worth

€ 2,000 and statuette, the Improvement Foundation, the Caja Vital Kutxa, Vitoria, for its "cultural Volunteer Reading" for more.

Award newspaper story, equally endowed

€ 2,000 and Fernando Miguel Montesinos statuette, for article "My dear major," published in La Opinión de Murcia.

The second prize of 500 € and statuette was awarded to the article "The grandmothers of today's incredible," published in the newspaper "The greatest" by Jesús Sáez Martínez, who lives in Cabrera de Mar (Barcelona).

SCHOOL CLASS Award MORE INVOLVED equipped than 1,000 € and statuette for the class and € 1,000 for the teacher in charge of the activity, has fallen in the "Grandparents also count.

The second prize in the category, endowed with € 500 for the statue to the teacher and class has gone to Public School Ambassadors Tomelloso (Ciudad Real), on the Intergenerational Project.
