Like every year, the Earned Marketplace Mercamurcia held its traditional annual meeting.
This meeting was attended, besides the usual components of various price tables, many representatives of the livestock sector in our region.
In the course of the meal that took place were awarded commemorative plaques Plaza Antonio Gómez (Macho) and Antonio Sanchez Andugar, in recognition of his contribution to the development of livestock and meat marketing and distribution in the Region of Murcia.
Antonio Plaza has managed to bring to your company as one of the first marketing of beef to the national and Antonio Sanchez is an important livestock and was a founder of the Real Pig.
Both are two fighters, hard-working and great professionals in their trade.
At the same meeting, Martin Peña, Mercamurcia manager and president of the Market, also made an assessment of farming in the Region in this difficult year.
"The disproportionate rise in grain prices, which triggered an untenable situation for farmers in the previous year, began to stabilize after the summer, reaching prices similar to those of early 2007.
In contrast, prices of livestock have had different responses in each of the three species listed on the Exchange. "
In cattle, the reduction in supply caused by the reduced use or closure of the feedlot has left the depleted region in beef cattle and although the existing provision allows low prices to keep interest levels, not available livestock to benefit from this.
Something similar has occurred in sheep, where the shortage of cattle at Christmas has forced farmers to slaughter animals lightweight, leaving empty farms and avoiding, to some extent, the collapse of prices after the holidays.
In pigs, it raised expectations for improvement during the summer, have not been able to maintain until the end of the year, as the price level at year end has been generating losses in spite of lower grain prices.
