The Socialist Party of the Region of Murcia (PSRM-PSOE) today demanded the Autonomous compliance with environmental legislation on the part of Monte Straight Plan, in the parish of Holy Angel Murcia.
This was claimed at a press conference the deputy Begoña García Retegui regional and municipal councilor in Murcia, Ros Mark.
The consistory of the capital of the Region approved last May, as a final part that plan, without having been made the Environmental Impact Assessment Directive which requires 92/43 of the European Union on the conservation of natural habitats and of wild fauna and flora.
At the time of this approval, representatives of the Socialist Group in the European Parliament asked the European Commission to rule on such approval.
The Commission, in a letter dated Nov. 19, said that "before allowing urban development plan, the competent authorities have to ensure compliance with the requirements of the Habitats Directive," and that "the impact any plan or project may have should be evaluated. "
Also, the European Commission estimated that "according to information available, the building project has been approved by the City of Murcia and the Commission understands that the regional authorities compete3ntes on environment have not yet made a final decision on the proposed plan by the City. "
The partial plan foresees the construction of some 60 houses or villas in access to Valley Regional Park from the village of Santo Angel.
This area is of high environmental value, with the presence of habitats of Community interest and has traditionally been an area of recreation and leisure for the residents of this hamlet.
