The University of Murcia celebrates the second anniversary of the death of Floridablanca in the publication of three books about her figure (17/12/2008)

The University of Murcia has joined the celebration of the bicentenary of the death of the politician José Monino, Count Floridablanca, with the publication of three books about his life and work of government, works presented in the convalescence, home of the Chancellor of this educational institution.

One of them, "Men of enlightened despotism in Spain: the Conde de Floridablanca", is a reprint of the biography published in 1934 by Professor of History at the University of Murcia Cayetano Alcázar.

This work, considered the first major political biography of Murcia, was the result of the teacher conferences Alcazar gave to mark the second anniversary of the birth of Floridablanca, the University of Murcia organized in 1928.

The prologue of this book is Juan Hernandez, author of another turn of the presented today, namely "The political and reformist thought of the Count of Floridablanca", in which the Professor of Modern History at the University of Murcia analyzed the government of Floridablanca in the Spain of Charles III.

Professor Hernández volume approaches the figure of Floridablanca with its lights and shadows and, although aware of the lack of unanimity on the work of political reform, argues that Mońino provided more positive than negative things to the government of Spain.

The third book is "Mission in Rome.

Floridablanca and the extinction of the Jesuits "by Enrique Giménez, professor at the University of Alicante.

As its name suggests, the work covers the four years spent Floridablanca as ambassador to the Holy See, with the primary mission to achieve the extinction of the Society of Jesus.

The success of the mission of Rome, described by Floridablanca as "the heaviest burden and more full of upheavals that could have given the King," catapulted him to the highest responsibilities within the government of Carlos III.

The presentation was also present rector, José Antonio Cobacho, who referred to the duty of the University of Murcia was to pay homage to the Count of Floridablanca, "arguably the most important political has Murcia" he said.

The works have been published by the University of Murcia, EDITUM, in his collection "Editum eyes."
