Social Welfare and endowments continue to expand the supply of nursing homes, women, disability and family for 2009 with a budget exceeding 13 million euros.
Promote the personal autonomy of the elderly, women and persons with disabilities, enhance home care services, promote equality and make the most active participants of society are the main objectives of the Department of Social Welfare, which in 2009 will use its economic endowments to achieve these ends.
Of these, 2.1 million is earmarked for investment, among which are the facilities and reforms to Day Care centers, senior centers and women.
The Department of Social Welfare and Equal Opportunities Policy, which directs Maria del Carmen Pelegrin plans to maintain and expand work performed by the elderly and disabled in order to further strengthen its autonomy and social participation.
The next year, the City will directly, through Social Welfare, more than 3,000 people from the Telecare service and another 1,800 in home help (a total of 334,723 hours).
These figures give an idea of the volume of this service, one of the most important social nature of those provided from the City of Murcia.
According to forecasts, in 2009 it will reach the 350,000 hours.
Over the next year, 26,000 will participate in activities associated with the 75 women's centers and another 36,000 will do so in the 76 Senior Centers in the municipality.
To meet the demand of the women attending the centers looking for activities and programs consistent with their needs, the council has provided a total of 160 courses.
Moreover, the council budgeted more than 292,000 euros for the area of disability, 1.2 million euros for Day Care Centres, 5, 2 million more resources for other 875,000-plus euros for their centers.)
The City collaborates with a total of 53 associations that serve 9,000 people with disabilities in the municipality.
As the number of meals served at home, this year will reach the 6,000 or so.
