The government delegate in Murcia, Rafael González Tovar, inaugurated this morning the Convention of Directors of the General Directorate of Traffic, which this year was held in Murcia, the hotel Nelva of the city, and which have been present the general director of Traffic, Pere Navarro, and the provincial directors across the country.
González Tovar has highlighted in his speech the general decline in the country in loss ratios, which are the lowest levels in recent decades, which means hundreds of victims less.
In this regard, stressed the excellent work being done by the Directorate General of Traffic to raise public awareness and the impetus given by the Government of Spain in a series of fundamental reforms such as the card with points.
He also stressed the important role of information campaigns and the media "to maintain the tension that this war without quarter against accidents."
The Government representative stated that the fight against accidents must have an overall theme, for which, in Murcia has enhanced the role of the Committee on Traffic and Road Safety as a coordination mechanism between the three administrations and between different agencies within each one of them.
"In this struggle we all join together and both municipalities, by the growing importance of accidents in urban sections, and the educational system because of the importance of road safety education and awareness of new generations.
Also, the Civil Guard, for its crucial role in monitoring, as well as the various authorities that own the roads, "he said.
On this last point, González Tovar has highlighted the role of the Government of Spain and modernization of the State Highway Network, which has a decisive impact on the declining number of accidents.
That investment is in addition also aimed at maintaining and improving the network, such as the recently approved to install 94 kilometers of safety barriers on state highways in the Region of Murcia.
