The Department of Social Welfare, Gender Equality Policies and Citizenship, to celebrate the November 25th International Day to End Violence Against Women, proposed to the Centers for Women and women's associations in a series of Murcia information and awareness activities on violence against women.
The City of Murcia, performed, from the women's section, comprehensive care to women who suffer abuse, responding to these problems from the fields: legal, social, economic, educational, psychological and housing, through a team multidisciplinary and specialized in this type of intervention (EMAVI) with specialized equipment and resources.
Other activities of the Department are focused on preventing gender-based violence through training programs in Centers for Women.
All these tools are considered essential in the face to prevent gender violence, since this is the main cause of inequality and hierarchy between men and women.
To reinforce these activities, in the second half of November 2008 will start in our town the Programme for the Prevention of Domestic Violence, the result of a collaboration agreement with the Institute of Women of the Region of Murcia Caja de Ahorros del Mediterráneo.
The program also includes training in this area aimed at security forces, specifically the local police in Murcia.
The objectives of this program focus on raising awareness of the gender violence in all its dimensions: etiology, types, dynamics of abusive relationships, consequences, characteristics associated with the abuser, detection basic intervention guidelines and resources.
