On the occasion of the damage caused by Hurricanes Gustav and Ike through Cuba and Haiti, and to meet human and material damage, last Wednesday by the Governing Board approved the dispatch of humanitarian aid to these countries.
Will provide aid in kind and are made through two separate agreements to be signed with the Spanish Red Cross and Caritas Diocesan Spain, the total amount of assistance from the City of Murcia amounts to 20,000 euros, to be divided between the two institutions.
Specifically, the Spanish Red Cross is going to be responsible for providing assistance in Cuba through the Cuban institution and will consist of the purchase of zinc sheets to repair the roofs of houses, as they have been affected nearly half a million housing.
In addition, Caritas Spain, through Caritas Haiti, will provide the necessary support in this country.
According to data provided by the embassy in Spain have been affected some 170,000 families, who at five people on average is almost 900,000 people affected.
The assistance to be provided by the agreement consist of goods that are considered most needed such as food, hygiene kits, tools and shelter materials.
