Continue to strengthen ties between Murcia and Paraguay has been the agreement reached this morning at the reception that the council for Development Cooperation, Remigio Lopez, has made the ambassador and consul of Paraguay, Oscar Cabello Sarubbi and Juan Modesto Cebrian, respectively.
The meeting has also had representatives from Ucomur and Unesco.
During the visit, various actions have been addressed in recent years are being carried out between the two regions, particularly since 2001, in which they have invested over 250,000 euros.
The projects have been awarded to NGOs for the development of Murcia, Fundación Diagrama Psychosocial Intervention, Institute of Community Development and the UNESCO Centre of Murcia.
These projects, undertaken relating to the years 2005 and 2007 have been directed to such important sectors such as human rights, the project "Comprehensive care for adolescent girls in social risk and conflict with the law"; the health sector, the project "Improvement of health and access to employment opportunities targeted to vulnerable populations in marginal areas," and the education sector, with the project "Vocational training of women leaders and monitoring of labor practices 'and' Construction of schools in the cooperative system for indigenous groups in the Chaco region of Paraguay. "
The latter project is part of a series of projects to be performed in Paraguayan Chaco region, funded by the city of Murcia and other municipalities and institutions of the region.
Moreover, it should be noted that in July 2007, the Mayor of Murcia, Miguel Ángel Cámara, in his capacity as Chairman of the Federation of Municipalities of the Region of Murcia and the Chief Minister of Affaires in Paraguay in Spain signed, as witnesses of emergency, the inter-institutional cooperation framework agreement, by which the Ministry of Education and Science Paraguayan UNESCO Centre of the Region of Murcia and the Union of cooperative education in the Region of Murcia is committed to undertake joint cooperative actions to improve educational quality, preserve and enrich the culture of the indigenous groups of the Chaco region of Paraguay.
Another action undertaken by the Municipality of Murcia in Paraguay, has been this summer, sending youth volunteers for cooperation in order to meet a demand side Murcia youth in these actions, and secondly to raise awareness of needs in other countries.
These youngsters were able to work directly on the project "Improvement of health and access to employment opportunities aimed at vulnerable population groups in marginal areas of Asuncion and San Lorenzo", living in a direct way the reality of the population in these neighborhoods.
