2,500 trees to combat climate change (28/10/2008)

Start planting 2,500 trees to combat climate change.

400 students and 100 volunteers participating municipal associations for five days (28 and 29 October and 6, 7 and 8 November) in the planting of 2,500 trees in a municipal plot of the Industrial West.

The Department of Environment and Urban Quality through the Local Agency for Energy and Climate Change Murcia (ALEM) and plans to repeat the experience in October 2009.

The species chosen for this occasion are Aleppo pine, pine, wild olive and carob trees, donated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Water.

During each of the five days one hundred participants planted about 420 trees.

The activity for students from 5th and 6th grade will be held every day except established on 8 November that is reserved for volunteers.

All participants will be presented with a diploma.

This project is part of the campaign "Plant for Murcia.

Plant for the Planet ', with which the City Council has joined the global initiative program of United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)' Plant for the Planet: Billion campaign tree. "

Thus, the City Council pledged to plant 12,000 trees by 2009.

This activity aims to raise awareness and engage youth in the fight against climate change, expanding and improving the action of existing vegetation in the county, as sinks of greenhouse gases.

This initiative aims to raise awareness on the value of natural resources, develop an active behavior in children and youth in the municipality with respect to the environment and create an urban forest because the trees are an important part of our nature, play a key role in the sustainability of urban areas.
