Murcia hosts for today and tomorrow a meeting framed in the "PEPESEC: Energy Planning for Sustainable Community Development", whose main purpose is to support the creation of local energy plans in order to achieve greater sustainability and environmental friendliness .
Thus, the City Council acts as host to representatives from the Manchester area, Genoa, Malmö, Eurocities addition to the Forum.
The main objective of the project led by the city of Murcia with ALEM, the Local Agency for Energy and Climate Change in Murcia, is the development of energy plans in the participating municipalities according to rational criteria for energy use and utilization of renewable resources .
The aim is to increase energy efficiency by reducing emissions of greenhouse gases and therefore the impact of human activity on the environment.
Through this project developed under the Intelligent Energy for Europe, Murcia City Council intends to continue to advance the goal of making the town a benchmark of sustainability and respect for the environment, efforts resulted in the Local Strategy against Climate Change in the Municipality of Murcia.
The meeting will present eight of the most representative of the municipality, as the future of Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (PMUS), the extension of the tram, the use of biofuels in public transport, the Bicycle Master Plan, the Energy Plan Local development, deployment of renewable energy in the municipality.
Later we will visit renewable energy installations in the Public University of Murcia and the CEMACAM bioclimatic building, continuing the treatment plant Municipal Solid Waste in Canada Beautiful, to conclude in the biogas treatment plant in East WWTP Wastewater Treatment Plant .
PEPESEC Project will provide knowledge and experience to those responsible for energy management of the municipality regarding the methodology to be developed to achieve the objectives stated therein.
As a final result of the Project will be held in Murcia an energy plan focused initially in two districts of the municipality of Murcia, Bacons Bridge and Sucina, very different characteristics and serve as representative of the great variety offered by the rest of the municipality, where intends to export the conclusions drawn.
Energy Plan model will address issues such as transport, public lighting, public buildings and new construction.
In a first stage, German has already begun to conduct energy audits to understand the different levels of energy and its origin, and in a second phase will develop the plan with measures taken to improve efficiency.
