Murcia is strengthened as a congress city, according to the data provided the report of the Office of the City of Murcia Congress during 2003-2007.
The economic impact of this meeting in Murcia is now doubled over the past 5 years, and that while the economic impact in 2003 was 28.5 million euros, in 2007 reached 51.3 million euros.
During the past five years the area of conferences, meetings, conferences and meetings (MICE-Meeting, Incentive, Conventions and Exhibitions) has made the city a cumulative turnover of 169.5 million euros.
Has also increased significantly the total number of events held in our city, from 455 activities with 76,371 attendees in 2003 to 1,041 events with 172,109 participants last year.
In recent years it has doubled the number of attendees at conferences.
In the past five years most of the meetings held in Murcia have been regional in nature (71%), followed by national (24%) and international (5%).
From 2003 to 2007 there were a total of 2,114 regional events with 337,153 participants, 723 national meetings with 118,126 attendees and 151 international events with 24,183 participants.
The regional and national meetings are the ones that have grown in recent years.
Regarding the evolution of congresses, conventions and conferences, congresses have been in the past five years while holding conventions has grown considerably from 25 events with 9,000 attendees in 2003 to 139 events with 23,980 participants last year.
Also, the days have grown to consider passing of 385 days with 49,871 attendees in 2003 to 846 events with 131,788 participants in 2007.
The conference organizers choose hotels (35%) and other meeting rooms in the city (38%) for its events, while 23% selected the Auditorium and Congress Center Victor Villegas in Murcia and a 3.8% University.
Even so, 60% of participants attending town events seminars in the auditorium as it is the room with more capacity.
The favorite months to hold meetings in the city are November (14.46%), October (12.2%), March (12.02%) and May (11.7%), while sectors with more acts are the economic and trade (28.9% of meetings), cultural (19.6%), age (13.9%) and medical and health (11.7%).
