Murcia City Council through the Local Agency for Energy and Climate Change (ALEM) installed in a first phase, ten containers for recycling used bulbs that are scattered throughout the city.
The first part of this energy-environmental project will be held in the town and later taken to the villages.
Following the energy saving measures announced by the central government, among others, giving away two energy saving light bulbs per household, the council of the Environment and Urban Quality, Adela Martinez-Cacho, believes that 'an effective policy of not saving can be based on giving away but know how to manage, but yet from Murcia and aware of the alarm, echoes of voices that announce the toxicity of some components of such luminaries and therefore easier for citizens recycling used lamps. "
This is to decrease the amount of such waste, reducing the environmental impact of these products and the dangers of some of its components, which are toxic.
At the same time, is expected to increase the use of them, since they are highly beneficial as far as regards energy saving ..
This initiative promotes the recovery and recycling of these bulbs that can be reinstated in the chain.
The types of lamps that are collected are: compact fluorescent, fluorescent tubes, including lamps, high intensity discharge lamps, low pressure sodium lamps and other equipment used for spreading or controlling light with the exception of filament bulbs.
Thus, compliance will help local Recycling Directive European Union came into force in 2005 and involving different types of products are difficult to eliminate as: large and small appliances, computer equipment and telecommunications equipment consumer electronics and medical devices, among others.
According to this directive, producers are responsible for the management costs of disposing of waste generated from their computers.
In the case of bulbs, growers are allowed to apply a charge the same price to cover the recycling costs of products placed on the market before the entry into force of the Directive.
The Department of Environment and Urban Quality through ALEM, will shortly begin the campaign of energy recommendations.
The first two areas chosen to install these containers are the headquarters of the Department of Environment and Urban Quality in the Annex Building to the City of Murcia and the headquarters of German (Paper Azarbe Street).
The remaining locations will be specified shortly.
This initiative will be extended soon to the districts of the municipality.
This measure is added and other similar ALEM and the City Council are carrying out their commitment to combat climate change and reducing energy consumption in this case through recycling.
Murcia City Council is committed to the EU together with other European cities through the Covenant of Mayors, to reduce by 20% the generation of greenhouse gases by 2020.
Energy-environmental recycling is another way for citizens to cooperate with this commitment.
