The Governing Council approved a cooperation agreement with the Down Syndrome Foundation (Fundown) for the construction of sheltered housing in shared living arrangements, as part of a Center for Promotion of Personal Autonomy (CEPAP).
The center aims to promote the personal autonomy of the participants as an alternative to the classic model of residence for people with intellectual disabilities.
The autonomous region will invest a total of 2,106,000 euros until 2011 to achieve the project which will benefit 24 people directly in homes and 50 more, temporarily, in the training modules for independent living .
The Centre is located on a plot of 2340.36 meters in the village square Cabezo de Torres Murcia, on loan free of charge by the city of Murcia Fundown and will be built by design of the Foundation for the enterprise GMT.
Besides homes, the facility would have space for scientific and technical research, a cabinet psychoeducational, vocational training, training of experts and professionals and a transit service to work, among others.
