The local line number 4 (Infante, Fleet, Santa Maria de Gracia and Gran Via) is today the most environmentally friendly line of Murcia, failing to deliver 13.4 tons of CO2 per year.
It gets underway and the pilot use of biodiesel (B-10) in public transportation, part of the European project Bio-Nett.
In its initial period will be three vehicles that use bio-liquid fuel in one of the most used urban lines (320,000 passengers per year) and one of the longer trips (135,000 miles per year), and that passes through the Carmen Infante Don Juan Manuel, First of May, Vistabella, La Paz, Fleet, Santa Maria de Gracia and Gran Via current fuel consumption is 60,750 liters of diesel per year.
This implementation is, without doubt, a revolution in the government's commitment to contribute to environmental preservation through the use of renewable energy.
Met and other measures as part of the Local Strategy to combat climate change, since it included the gradual renewal of the fleet of buses and vehicles with low emission of pollutants or the use of bio-fuels.
Due to the inability of buses Lightning could use biodiesel, the Project Monitoring Committee selected the three buses of Line 4 for the implementation of this initiative.
Besides being the host bus more passenger capacity and carry out one of the longer trips, there were other aspects that led to the Monitoring Committee to select this line:
MAN vehicles NM-223-F are consuming more and more CO2 emissions, plus it has the backing of the manufacturer for B-10 and B-20.
To supply this pilot has been installed air tank, 5000 liters, which has allowed less time to begin the experience, and a lower cost.
The experience will last for a period of twelve months, beginning to use biodiesel B-10, and from the B-20 from the sixth month.
Throughout this year will be carried out important work monitoring, control and research on the implementation process of bio-fuel.
Moreover, it is noteworthy that all buses will have to be adapted and will be identified with the logos of Bio-Nett and Intelligent Energy for Europe, badges indicating the use of biodiesel.
The implementation of this pilot project is the result of an agreement between the City of Murcia, through the Local Agency for Energy and Climate Change (ALEM), the departments of Environment and Transport, headed by Adela Martinez-Cache and Antonio Castillo, respectively, and Energy Management Agency of the Region of Murcia (ARGEM), chaired by the Minister of Sustainable Development and Spatial Planning, Benito Mercader.
