The Minister of Health, María Ángeles Palacios, today chaired the symbolic act of delivery of the Gold Medal of the Region of Murcia to the professionals who serve in the Hospital Universitario Virgen de la Arrixaca.
The award was granted by the Governing Council to Arrixaca and handed over to its managing director, Manuel Alcaraz, on 9 June, Day of the Region.
The Gold Medal is a recognition "to the thousands of people who have made over the years that we now have one of the best hospitals in the country," said Palacios.
The event, in addition to the current manager of the hospital, attended by some of his predecessors in office, such as Ricardo Candel (1983-1986), José Antonio Molina Illán (1988-1989), Alfredo Macho (1989-1995), Enrique Mené ( 1995-1996), Maria Guerrero (1996-2003) and Roberto Ferrándiz (2003-2005).
During his 35 years of existence, Arrixaca has become an essential reference of Spanish medicine and healthcare in the Region of Murcia.
"A symbol of health and quality health care," said the Minister of Health.
Today in Arrixaca work more than 4,000 professionals who oversee health care efficiency and quality, in addition, the health center plays an important role in teaching and research, to which we must add that the Arrixaca "is a real focus when not an engine of the economy of the Region of Murcia, "said Palacios said the minister.
It is estimated that more than a million have passed through the Murcia Hospital Arrixaca and he were born more than 200,000 people.
The center has pioneered in several programs, such as transplants and heads the biomedical research.
It is also expected to Arrixaca hosting in the not too distant Murciano Biomedical Research Institute, Cancer Center and the new Campus Health Science.
