The Mayor of Murcia, Miguel Angel House, inaugurated this morning the recovery of the Iberian Sanctuary and Temple of Light, an important archaeological site that can be enjoyed from now on all Murcia.
The spot where stood the Temple Sanctuary and Iberian and the new Visitors Center building of the Light were land farmed by the monks of the Hermitage of the Light and therefore removed and terraced from the seventeenth century.
Agricultural work and the passage for centuries of pastors and even smugglers, made that crop residues on the surface that caught the attention of treasure hunters and collectors of antiques.
This made the site was plundered at various times and that some of the most significant finds are now in private hands and even in museums in other Spanish regions.
With the intervention of Murcia Tourist Consortium Crossroads revamp an old area is proposed as other cultural and tourist attraction for both Murcia and those who visit these places.
The action that has involved an investment of € 311,000.00, has enabled the consolidation, restoration and interpretation of each and every one of the significant elements of the Sanctuary and Temple of Light Ãbero.
Have carried out cleaning work, consolidation and return of remains of the Sanctuary.
Thus, in addition to revive and strengthen this part of the historical aims to promote knowledge transfer and on the Iberian people, their role in history, lifestyles and customs, and their contribution to the development of our civilization.
At the same time complements and enriches the cultural and tourism is already available in the Visitors Center of Light.
