With the objective of further encouraging the participation of women in artistic creativity, the Center for Women in La Paz yesterday celebrated the delivery of the prizes in painting contest VII.
The Deputy Mayor for Social Welfare Policy and Equality, María del Carmen Pelegrin, and Councilman Festivals and Popular Culture, Rafael Gomez, yesterday presided over the ceremony of presenting awards to the works of women who have excelled in their most artistic creativity.
Pelegrin said during his speech, the important role being carried out from the Center for Women, "a work that would not be possible through the collaboration of all its members."
The jury consisted of: Antonio Rosa (painter and sculptor), Maria Teresa Gomez (painter), José Manuel Peñalver (Artist) and M ª Carmen García (representative of the Scepter of Women, with voice but no vote).
In total 50 works were presented.
There were five prizes, with prize money ranging between 330 and 100 euros, plus there was a special mention for the election of women as subject of the work (also received a hundred euros).
The Women's Center of La Paz has been working steadily since 1986, and since its incorporation as its main objective the development of women, thus contributing to their integration into their surroundings and participative in all areas of life, which has since its inception with the financial and technical support of the Department of Social Welfare and Equality Policies.
The activities planned for 2008 at the Center for Women in La Paz include: paint shop, dance studio, gymnastics, yoga, physiotherapy prevention workshop, theater, cultural visits, tours and painting contest, course, "Assistant Geriatrics I, have requested an Environmental Education course, know the products of our region, "Cheese to wine and reading workshop.
