The City Council will receive a European grant, in excess of 285,000 euros, to run three projects with which encourage energy saving and renewable energy.
These new projects are part of the multi-year program "Intelligent Energy for Europe 'of the Directorate General for Energy and Transport European Commission
In this way, the City of Murcia start a transnational action plan on energy efficiency and effectiveness in line with European policies to promote energy saving and renewable energy in coordination with other major European cities
The budget for these projects amounts to € 285,867 and the implementation period is three years.
Intended to the total, 50% will be financed by the EU and the other 50% will be financed by the city of Murcia and other private contributions.
The councils of European Programmes and Environment has submitted three projects in partnership with regional governments and municipalities in European cities that work such as Manchester (Uk), Malmo (Finland), Stockholm (Sweden), Lodz and Rzeszow (Poland) Genoa and Liguria (Italy), Amaroussion, Crete and Thessaloniki (Greece), Stuttgart and Cologne (Germany), Plovdiv (Bulgaria), Vienna (Austria), Targu Lapus (Romania), Cascais and Almada (Portugal), Bucharest and Ramboll (Romania), Rijeka (Croatia), Lisbon (Portugal), Brussels (Belgium) and London (United Kingdom).
Murcia City Council will be financing for the development of three new projects within the program framework for action in the field of energy, called the Intelligent Energy for Europe, which has the goal of supporting sustainable development in the context of energy consumption , competitiveness and environmental protection.
This program applies the broad lines of the Green Paper Towards a European strategy for energy security to strengthen the security of energy supply, combating climate change and boost the competitiveness of EU companies.
These projects are part of the City of Murcia strategy aimed at preventing climate change, set in their Local Agenda 21 and the commitments made by its membership of the Spanish Network of Cities for Climate.
The first project, called climate change plan PRO-EE will focus on developing a plan against climate change and the development and implementation of guidelines for the procurement of goods, equipment and supplies with improved energy performance and environmental.
The recommendations of the same should be integrated within the specifications that are developed for the procurement of other equipment and supplies.
The experience of the Municipality of Murcia will be exported to other Spanish city councils and especially those who are part of the Spanish Network of Cities for Climate and will be disseminated to affected groups and stakeholders in the municipality.
The PEPESEC energy efficiency plan will focus on developing an energy efficiency plan of the municipality in order to support and strengthen the efficient use of energy, promote and support innovative practices in renewable energy and energy efficiency, reduce municipality dependence on fossil fuels and increase awareness for the implementation of sustainable energy principles.
The purpose is to help achieve the objectives of percentages of renewables in energy consumption set by the Renewable Energy Plan in Spain (2005 -2010) by replacing traditional energy sources by alternative sources, increased energy facilities solar photovoltaic and the introduction of biofuels in the municipal public transport.
The latest project, called the Development and Implementation of Solar Thermal Ordinance PRO-STO, is aimed at promoting solar energy use by promoting the effective implementation of the obligations of solar thermal energy.
With the implementation of the project is to facilitate in the municipality of Murcia implementation of the new Technical Building Code (Royal Decree 314/2006 of March 17) as regards the requirement to install in new homes and Reformed solar thermal collectors for hot water through a municipal ordinance to develop the provisions of this Royal Decree.
