La Sardina del Río Segura and shines at night murciana (22/05/2008)

The Department of Infrastructure and Community Services, directed by José Arce, has proceeded to install a total of ten light projectors to enhance the sculpture of the Sardine.

La Sardine is lit by five projectors installed in the left-up to Mills River, and five on the right side, opposite the Glorieta.

To avoid wastage of electricity, the City of Murcia has installed a program that will regulate the on / off headlamps, depending on the season.

For now, the sculpture will be illuminated from 21:30 am until 1:00 am.

Sardina, who is stranded in the River Segura at the height of the Mills River, has been sculpted by Miguel Llamas, and silica in bronze and covered with a green patina.

The monument weighs approximately twelve tons and measuring about 23 meters.

From the fish's mouth a stream of water about 23 meters.

In addition, a light system will cause the effect of burning between the head and tail of the sardine.

The sculpture is anchored in the river by a concrete structure.

Thus, the Segura River becomes another landmark of the city that has a sculpture.

This monument to the Sardine is part of the plan is carried out by the Municipality of Murcia to beautify the city through the installation of various works of art sculpted by renowned sculptors, Murcia thus turning into a real open air museum.
