detail of Murcia

Murcia has a noise map adapted to European standards (14/05/2008)

The Governing Board gave its approval to the municipality's noise map that determines the areas with noise and sound sources causing this noise.

Thus, Murcia and has a valuable tool for environmental management, being the basis for raising activities to combat or prevent noise pollution.

The Environmental Protection Service has been conducting since 1995 to continuously measure noise levels during day and night periods in the streets of the city of Murcia, in order to know the levels of noise to which the population is subject, according to the protocol as set out in Regional Decree 48/1998 of environmental protection against noise, providing measures in a period of 569 days and 331 at night time.

The City Council has made the strategic noise map of the most densely populated area of our municipality, the urban center of the city of Murcia, as due to the amplitude of the municipality and the complexity of the studies and calculations to perform, has was necessary to tackle it in stages.

The results show that the municipality, from the acoustic point of view, follows the trend of other European cities of the same features as the main cause of noise source and the levels.

As befits a city with a significant development of services and shops, mainly due to being capital of the region and the most populous municipality, the traffic is our main source of noise pollution.

It is therefore in ways that support the highest density of vehicles where there are higher levels of noise.

During the day, the limit set by the regulations for residential areas is 65 dB (A).

A street level facade which have higher levels (above 75 dB (A)) are low if compared with the total of the village road.

Here are some specific sections of the West Ring Road, and the Gran Va

Most of the village, which corresponds to the largest extent of the study area is located at noise levels below 65 dB (A), thus complying with the rules established by

As the night time, noise levels suffered a significant decline as a result of the decrease in traffic during this period.

The limit fixed by law is 55 dB (A).

During night time the only way to exceed 70 dB (A) is the western ring, being the other main roads significantly below these levels.

On a facade, the streets have levels between 65 and 70 dB (A) is the stretch between Plaza San Francisco and map Tornel Martnez Plaza.

Most of the town center that is outside of these major traffic routes, which corresponds to the largest extent of the study area is located at noise levels below 55 dB (A).

The study of the affected population in the area of study has been performed by analyzing the dwellings exposed to each of the different noise levels as established by the legislation.

For the period day we found that 6% of the population is exposed in their homes at levels above 65 dB (A), while for the night period this percentage is 11% as the limits are more restrictive.

One purpose of strategic noise maps is the development at a later stage of action plans in terms of noise pollution that identify actions to be taken to improve acoustics in those areas that exceed the limits set by law or to protect those areas from quiet acoustic point of view.

The measures provided for by the city of Murcia to date and will be integrated into the future Action Plan fall into two broad areas: planning and building, and Mobility.

Urban planning and construction:

● Information partial plans sound next to highways, freeways, arteries, high capacity, industrial sites, stations, airports, transportation centers, etc.

since the adoption of General Plan of Murcia in 2001.

● Requiring supplementary sound insulation required in the NBE-CA-88 in new buildings on streets that exceed the limits set by law since 2001 with the approval of General Plan of Murcia.

● Line of grants to increase the sound insulation in buildings located on existing streets where noise levels exceed set by the regulations.

Launched in 2002.

Through the Ordinance for Environmental Protection against the noise and vibration are established seven Special Areas of Environmental Protection (ZEPM) in the town of Murcia, where special measures are set to improve or preserve their sound quality.

Mobility:

● Installing sound-absorbing asphalt on the new traffic routes and those that are renewed.

● Control of noise levels for motor vehicles.

● car sharing service: The City of Murcia has a service on its website www.murcia.es to facilitate contact between those who perform the same movements.

● Promotion of sustainable travel modes to the detriment of private cars.

The main measures envisaged in this field are:

● streets to pedestrian and establishment of restricted traffic zones.

To date it has 250,000 m2 of pedestrian areas and four areas of restricted traffic.

● Renovation, expansion and protection of sidewalks and removal of architectural barriers.

Promotion of public transport:

● Implementation of the tram.

During 2007 we launched the zero section Juan Carlos I and is expected to increase to 44 miles in 4 lines.

● Coach: We performed continuous modernization of the fleet and the services it offers.

● Promotion of cycling as a means of regular transportation in the municipality.

The measures taken in this field are:

● Drafting of the Bicycle Master Plan in order to design a network of cycling trails in the township roads.

Preparation and implementation will allow the use of bicycles in a maximum period of 4 years.

● Implementation of systems of public bicycle rental.

The City Council will make a tender for the implementation of these systems to facilitate the citizen to use this means of transport.

● Installing bicycle parking facilities in different municipalities.

● Enabling the zero stretch of track cyclable between the city of Murcia and universities.

Promotion of urban hiking signaling pathways: Urban Local Path-MU SL 10 "Walk 10,000 steps":

Soon provide the means necessary to get the map to be accessible to the public.

Any citizen over the Internet and municipal concrete yet, you know what the noise level of the street.
