The Murcia Convention Bureau this year marks the tenth anniversary of its creation, which is why last night a dinner was held which was attended by more than a hundred businessmen and members of the institutions assigned to it.
The event, held at the Hotel Nelva, was chaired by the Mayor, Miguel Ángel Cámara, and the Minister of Tourism and Consumer Affairs, Jose Pablo Ruiz Abellán, and had the assistance of Mary Isabel Valcárcel, president of the Convention Bureau and Jesus Pacheco, president of the Association of Partners members.
Also present were also the Director General of Tourism, Angel Campos, and Office Manager, Ramón Palazón.
The planned establishment of Murcia Convention Bureau began to take shape in 1997 in response to the concerns of entrepreneurs in the service sector of the city for not staying out of the new trends of the tourism market, which by then already suggested that the segment meetings would be an important source of revenue and "tourists" to Murcia.
As a result of these early efforts created the Association of Member Collaborating Murcia Convention Bureau in October 1997, with 19 partners, mostly hotel companies, conference organizers, restaurants and bars of outstanding ability and Palacio de Congresos, who soon would join other sectors (car rentals, design firms, marketing, hostesses, etc.)..
On March 2, 1998 opens its doors for the first time the Congress Bureau of the Municipality of Murcia, located then at the Palace Almudí, with a budget of 20.27 million pesetas.
In May 2002 he moved to the annex to the Auditorium and Congress Center.
By that time has a budget of EUR 166.000l and 50 associated companies.
Currently, the budget is around 240,000 euros and the associated companies is 70.
Awards and Recognition
The Convention Bureau and the Association of Partners members wanted to take the commemoration of the tenth anniversary for delivery of the prizes in recognition of individuals or institutions that have stood out over the years in the history of this Office.
For this reason, the awards were granted to the Mayor, Miguel Angel House, the Chief of Endocrinology and Nutrition Service of the Hospital Virgen de la Mansion Bed Arrixaca and Silk.
Gratitude to the Mayor, which was delivered by Jesus Pacheco, is motivated by the "aid given at the time of our birth and the sustenance and support from our office, and for his efforts in promoting tourism in Murcia ".
Dr. Francisco Javier Tebar Masso has been awarded for being the person who over the years has encouraged or promoted more professional conference in the city.
Finally, the recognition of the Silk Mansion picked up by its director, Francisco Fuentes was due to his firm and resolute commitment to achieve the office became a landmark tourism congresses and meetings.
