The electoral reform approved by the Regional Assembly of Murcia in 2015, with the adoption of the single constituency and the lowering of the electoral threshold of five percent to three percent, representing an increase of plurality, as reflected in the doctoral thesis Javier Sierra Rodriguez, conducted at the University of Murcia (UMU).
This research, which was developed in the Faculty of Law, says that the new electoral system introduced with the reform, "facilitating access to obtaining seat to political groups with less electoral support."
According to the author of the thesis, "it is expected that greater capillarity of the Regional Assembly and a greater plurality of forces represented is achieved".
Javier Sierra, the amendments adopted in 2015 could have been more ambitious, consider taking advantage of a situation that will be difficult to repeat "to undertake more fundamental changes."
The doctoral thesis, which has obtained excellent cum laude, was led by Professor of the University of Murcia Luis Galvez.
