The City of Murcia, through the Department of Social Rights, directed Conchita Ruiz, he has promoted networking between local government and third sector organizations to address and coordinate the fight against poverty and social exclusion in all its aspects, through plans and protocols to improve care for groups such as homeless people and situations such as child poverty, energy and water and food distribution.
The Network is chaired by the Councillor for Social Rights and comprise representatives of Caritas, CEPAIM, Rais Foundation, Red Cross, Jesus Forsaken, Columbares and EAPN, plus municipal technicians and the regional administration.
It is organized around five key strategic areas, which are grouped all the issues and actions that members have raised, such as the detailed and updated the risk of poverty and social exclusion in the municipality knowledge;
favoring prevention of risk situations of poverty and social exclusion;
performances with individuals and groups at risk of poverty and social exclusion;
awareness actions;
and concrete actions in areas with special difficulties.
According to the mayor, "the fight against poverty and social exclusion is a priority and essential objective of social policy, more so when it comes to local government and therefore the closest to the citizens, and to be addressed by a more immediately the most basic social needs of those residing in the township. "
Ruiz stressed that the Municipal Network for Social Inclusion aims to develop "a planned and coordinated in conjunction with the third sector action that transcends the mere voluntarism or the individual response and exceeding mere handout or charity approach".
For combating poverty and social exclusion, the Department of Social Rights allocate more than 10 million euros, 7 percent more than last year.
Homeless care
The network began operating last October and in December began the work of the group formed to care for the homeless as a result of winter and the coordination and design of pathways and referral protocols for the care of the homeless.
The other groups are currently being configured and initiate their activity during this month.
More immediately, in addition to those mentioned above, it has been agreed to create one specific to developing emergency measures against child poverty in the city and another to promote actions to improve coordination in the distribution of food.
It is also envisaged the establishment of a task force to develop a municipal plan against poverty energy and water;
homelessness, mental health and addictions;
and a relational map of resources for dealing with situations of social exclusion in the city.
Finally, the mayor of Social Rights has explained that this method of establishing a comprehensive work, with the active participation and coordination of all municipal departments, other governments and third sector organizations in the fight against poverty and social exclusion "in order to improve the efficiency of existing resources, to enhance action on people and the most vulnerable families in our town planning and coordinated development of new initiatives and the creation of new resources to combating poverty and social exclusion ".
