The Mayor, José Ballesta, presided this morning the awards to the winners of the event "Once upon a better Christmas," organized by the city of Murcia and Ferrovial Servicios to recognize the best creations of Bethlehem figures, ornaments and decorated to class They are taking advantage of the holidays disused or recycled materials.
The event, which was held in the Square, has also attended the Councillor for Public Works, Roque Ortiz, the Regional Director of Ferrovial Servicios, Jorge Tejedo, and the Director of the concessionaire of street cleaning, Antonio Igualada , and gathered in the garden about 300 children between 3 and 12 years who participated in the contest.
This first edition of the contest have been presented more than 450 papers in different categories: Bethlehem figurines, Christmas ornaments hanging on trees and decorating classrooms.
Schools that have been finalists at the "Once upon a better Christmas" were:

- CEIP Infante Don Juan Manuel.
- CEIP Master Joseph Brown.
- CEIP Pedro Perez Abbey.
- CEIP Virgen de Guadalupe.
- Colegio Monteagudo.
- CEIP Our Lady of Bethlehem.
In the group category, in which the increased participation and quality of work is recognized, they were awarded sports equipment to the center, schools:

- CEIP Virgen de Guadalupe.
In the category of Nativity figurines they have been awarded Alejandro Costa, Pedro Perez Abbey school;
Emilia Prisons, Joseph Brown school;

Throughout the morning, the Square has hosted various activities for children and related waste management.
Among them, it has organized a workshop where children, accompanied by monitors have created figures of Bethlehem with corks.
It has also installed an exhibition of a Nativity made with recycled materials and other figures hanging from Christmas trees made from recycled cardboard.
Also, children have witnessed a performance of magic and in a television set, have given their views on recycling and explained how they collaborate in cleaning the city and in the care of the environment.

Children awareness program
