Experts thirty institutions analyzed the history of law and the changes that society demands, through the figure of Pope Innocent III

The Temple of the Monastery of Jeronimos has welcomed this morning the inauguration of Innocent III International Congress and time.

The event, organized by the Chair Innocent III to commemorate the eighth anniversary of the celebration of the Fourth Lateran Council, hosts 50 expert speakers on the subject from Oxford, Iceland, Bologna, Budapest, Madrid or Seville, among others.

In the opening ceremony participated José Luis Mendoza, president of the UCAM;

Monsignor Jose Manuel Lorca Planes, bishop of the Diocese of Cartagena;

Cardinal Peter Erdo, archbishop of Esztergom-Budapest and main speaker of the Synod of Families;

Javier Belda, professor at the Catholic and codirector of the Chair;

and Manuel Jesús Arroba, dean of the legal faculty of the Pontifical Lateran University.

Bringing the Gospel to the ordinary people

Cardinal Peter Erdo pointed out that the story of Jesus Christ reaches us through the history of the Church, so it is important to know the history of this institution through the various councils that have taken place and have laid the groundwork ecclesial institution.

Similarly, he added that "the celebration of the IV Lateran congress, which met 800 years, and of which we are speaking in this Congress, the Gospel to the ordinary people even closer."

Study of the figure of Innocent III

Innocent III, Pope of the Catholic Church 1198-1216, is one of the most important figures of the Middle Ages and the medieval papacy, and their study is essential to understand the Church today.

"The great challenges of the contemporary world are not alien to the concerns of the Church. It is ironic to think that the challenges that Innocent III had to face in the Lateran Council may have a similar face in our time," says co-director Chair Javier Belda.

The Chair Innocent III comes from the hand of the UCAM and the Pontifical Lateran University, with the goal of research in the area of ​​the history of law, common law and canon law, analyze this stage of history, instrumental in the development of law medieval, and the concept we have of the papacy, and that coincided with important pieces of legislation such as the English Magna Carta.

Manuel Jesús Arroba, dean of the law faculty of the Pontifical Lateran University, said that through history, we can "study in depth the history that is not improvised, it is not invented, is a way of finding lighting problems new that we have.
