An international committee of experts in food, which is part of the professor of the University of Murcia Marta Garaulet, has published a Scientific Consensus Statement in which it is stated that, contrary to what you believe in miracle diets, pasta is a healthy, rich in complex carbohydrates and suitable for almost all diets.
These conclusions have been reached in the V World Congress Pasta, held in the city of Milan, where scientists from Argentina, Brazil, France, Greece, Italy, Mexico, Portugal, Spain and the United States has presented the latest research on carbohydrates , nutrition, health and pasta.
Garaulet, who represented Spain in the agreement, defended the inclusion of the paste in the Mediterranean diet as an option for weight loss, because "clinical trials show that it is excess calories, not carbohydrates, responsible for obesity."
Diets that work and promote weight loss must submit balanced carbohydrates, proteins and healthy fats proportions, said Professor of Physiology at the University of Murcia, for whom carbohydrate phobia does not make sense when it comes to losing weight, "even very low in these diets can be unsafe, especially in the long term."
In Congress also it highlighted the low environmental impact of pasta, as well as their lower than other carbohydrate-rich foods glycemic index, which helps control blood sugar levels and body weight.
