San Juan de Dios hosts the exhibition of fifty figures made by Hernández Navarro for nativity'La Pava' (02/11/2015)

Monumental church of San Juan de Dios hosts from Tuesday the exhibition "Sculptures for a nativity scene ', which brings together around fifty of figures created by the sculptor José Antonio Hernández Navarro from 1984 to the present for the crib de la Peña 'La Pava'.

In total, Hernandez Navarro has made over the last 30 years 120 known figures for the Christmas crib every organizes 'La Pava'.

Hours are Tuesday to Saturday, 10:00 to 13:30 and 17:00 to 20:00, and Sundays and holidays from 10:00 to 13:30 hours.

The sculptor

José Antonio Hernández Navarro (Los Ramos, Murcia, 1954) was drawn from his childhood drawing and modeling, and he always remembered painting, drawing or making shapes with mud from ditches.

Moved by this concern, he began to visit the workshops of Séiquer Elisa and Jose Sanchez Lozano.

In the workshop he met Séiquer belenista Moñino craftsman Pedro Serrano, who went to work at age 15 as modeler and sculptor.

At the time he enrolled in the School of Arts and Crafts.

As sculptor has made carvings for the entire region and to other cities in Spain.

In 1982, the Brotherhood of Forgiveness in Murcia chose his sketch for performing the step of Coronation of Thorns and since this work began to receive orders from other brotherhoods of Easter.

In 1984 he began modeling figures for the crib penalty 'La Pava', for which it has made a total of 120 small sculptures full of detail.

Today, Hernandez Navarro continues to bring some new piece every year this crib, which traditionally shown every Christmas in this space of the church of the Monumental San Juan de Dios.

It is a customs crib in which, in addition to familiar faces among his figures, the public can see landscapes of the garden, replicas of famous buildings and Murcia monuments, traditions of the region and even a recreation of the studio of the sculptor Francisco Salzillo.
