Javier Corral de la Calle, professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Murcia, has won the GATRA international award for work on antithrombin, a natural anticoagulant.
The project focuses on finding new molecular mechanisms that explain the antithrombin deficiency and who can prove, in turn, that this anomaly is much more common than you think.
Antithrombin is one of the most important proteins of the coagulation system and its deficiency results in the occurrence of thrombotic complications, which are the main cause of mortality in developed countries.
Professor Corral receive the award, which has been in his jury with excellent researchers from the US, Japan, Italy, Holland, Germany and Spain, 50,000 euros of the company Grifols to continue this line of research.
