Judge of the International Court of Justice sees "positive" the existence of other international courts (13/10/2015)

The judge of the International Court of Justice Antonio Augusto Cançado Trindade has been favorable to the creation of international tribunals permanent basis, during a lecture today at the University of Murcia.

Cançado Trindade has criticized the derogatory comments that arise in certain areas of law in relation to the "proliferation of international tribunals" and said that these are "positive" because they assume "expand access to justice to a greater number of litigants".

The Brazilian judge and professor, who gave the conference to mark the centenary of the Faculty of Law, has remarked that "all permanent international tribunals are important, it depends on the situation of litigants".

At this point, he has praised the role of international human rights courts, "claiming their skills against state authoritarianism and are not as limited with the consent of the states, as with the International Court of Justice."

The lecturer, who has come in his dissertation the history of modern international courts and the process of creation and development of these, stressed the expansion in the last three decades of the jurisdiction, legal status and international responsibility.

The talk, organized by the Department of Public International Law at the University, was held in the auditorium with the assistance of the dean of the Faculty, David Lorenzo Morillas, and Professor Cesáreo Gutiérrez Espada, who has emphasized Cançado "strong commitment with the people".

Prior to the conference, the judge has been received by the rector of the University, José Orihuela, at a reception held in convalescence, the home of the Chancellor.
