The Mayor, José Ballesta, has placed the culture, education, social cohesion, employment, transparency and citizen participation as an "essential to build smart cities bet".
To this he referred in his speech at the opening of the "European Smart Cities journey.
The standard smart city and European digital agenda ", organized by the Truth and Prestomedia Group and sponsorship, among others, the City of Murcia and Aguas de Murcia.
Ballesta has also referred to the need to "not lose sight of the human being and social innovation" in the process of implementation of Smart cities, where Murcia works for exercising a leadership role.
Although cities cover only 4% of the surface in the near future they will reside in them 70% of the population and concentrate 80% of energy use.
With these parameters, "you can not make a sustainable world without sustainable intelligent cities," concluded Ballesta, after stressing that "Smart city is much more than new technology" is the application of available resources to improve the quality of life of citizens.
