The Forum "the social value of the University", which celebrates today the Conference of Rectors of Spanish Universities (CRUE) at the University of Murcia, has devoted one of its round tables on the role of research as one of the pillars of the institutions of higher education.
In it, moderated by former rector of the University of Cordoba José Manuel Roldán, it has highlighted the importance of innovation for economic progress and social welfare of the country.
Vice President of CRUE and Rector of the Autonomous University of Madrid, José María Sanz, has focused his speech on the qualitative and quantitative leap that has occurred in the research activity of the Spanish university during the past thirty years.
Among the challenges to boost research in universities, Sanz has cited, among others, economic and human adequate and stable resources, adaptation to the new context of R & D, supporting competitive groups, catchment plans talent or professional management.
For its part, Mercedes Sierra, coordinator of Innovation engineering company SENER has analyzed the weaknesses of the Spanish companies in R & D.
This afternoon continue the journey with the round table "The social value of the transfer of knowledge" and the closure by the president of the CRUE, Manuel Lopez, and director of the University-Society Forum, Federico Gutiérrez-Solana.
