Christopher Hernandez Barbero, a former student of the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Murcia, has won the competition for a bust in honor of former first rector of the University of Murcia and the great architect of survival and consolidation this school, José Loustau, who led the University of Murcia between 1918 and 1939.
The sculpture, which is made of bronze life-size (90 cm), is placed in the cloister of the Faculty of Law, University venue since 1935, property that was acquired and inaugurated by Loustau own, and which had its office for years.
Barbero Hernandez assures that since he heard of the announcement of the prize, tried documented with period photographs, documents, writings and reading own rector of the only biography published about him, written by Luis Valenciano Doctor Honoris Causa in 1979 Gayá .
Hernandez Barbero has represented in his work with Professor Loustau robe and with typical glasses, looking wistfully to heaven.
The play includes a shell, a symbol of his passion for biology.
The author has chosen to represent the end of his life: "I have tried to summarize his entire career in the final moment of his life, after having given everything for the University of Murcia, for his students and for his research"
"I would like, once placed on the campus, people approach to sculpture, to recognize it, and used to encourage university students to learn more about their life and work," says Hernandez Barbero, who says "Loustau was a university example, someone very devoted to college, his work, his research and his family."
The winner, who is very proud of the award, says he is grateful to the University of Murcia, since "Loustau Museum, the University and all the services that went in search of material and documentation is turned with me".
The jury was composed of José Meseguer Penalver, Dean of the Faculty of Biology, taught in the classrooms teaching the Rector Loustau;
Sunday Campillo Garcia, professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts;
Paez Manuel Alvarez, professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts;
Inmaculada Martínez Abarca, Professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts, and Juan Martinez Lax, sculptor.
