The association, along with the platform in defense of Cultural Heritage of Murcia, has received notification from the Ministry of Culture of the CARM, in which protection record uniqueness and importance of this heritage asset is collected

The Association for the Conservation of Huerta de Murcia and the Platform in Defence of Cultural Heritage of Murcia have received official notice of the initiation of proceedings to protect the Old Bridge, which marks the start of procedures for qualifying as a Site of Cultural Interest.

The resolution of initiation, issued by the General Director of Cultural Heritage of the CARM, recognizes the "outstanding cultural value for the Region of Murcia" the Old Bridge, as it is not only "an essential element of the city leaning on the river but it is itself generating element in the urban fabric, to allow for expansion to the south ".

The Old Bridge engineering project as such.

The dam built as foundation base and regulation of the channel (which is serving the Mills River, now a museum).

Bridge abutments located on both márganes, including hidden by the wall of the channel on the right bank and its underpass breakwater.

The nineteenth-century lampposts located on the bridge.

For this association, the handling of this case is an opportunity for the municipality of Murcia look back on their heritage, beginning to understand and manage it with new forms, where historical, landscape and environmental importance is valued, and not as it has so far, with successive attacks that have undermined the cultural heritage of Murcia.
