The Old Bridge or the hazards, one of the most iconic, distinctive and beloved symbols of the city, turns 275 years next week.

So with that date as symbolic completion of the arches of the bridge marks.

The plaque was placed there by order of the director of the play, at the time, Jaime Bort, who had been hired to finish the bridge, after the death of Toribio Martinez de la Vega.

The inscription in capital letter square signs and abbreviations typical of the era, is taxed on two consecutive blocks of 0.84 and 0.72 m long, respectively, and 0.41 m in height.

Generally good condition but it has shown in some places erosion by dissolution and calcareous concretions affecting some letters, being necessary to conduct a thorough study and evaluation, prior to its restoration.

The old bridge was destroyed in 1701 as a result of the numerous floods which over the years devastated Murcia, forcing them to substitute another more consistent work.

The solution presented by the architect Toribio Martinez de la Vega was to build a structure with two eyes, instead of three, giving it a noticeable rise today remains visible, as clearly appreciate the slopes at the end of the Gran Vía and towards the Camachos square.

The works were auctioned in 1704, but did not begin to run until 1717. The bridge construction is not completed, after several lengthy interruptions and some modifications, until 1742, with the participation of Jaime Bort (1739-1742), baroque architect whose work more important was the facade of the cathedral, Plaza del Marqués de Camacho, the altarpiece of the Church of Mercy or intervention on the facade of the Sanctuary of the Fuensanta, working the central niche with the image of the Virgin flanked by San Patricio and San Fulgencio.
