The delegation of Murcia Manuel Paredes, Sergio Melero and Pilar Rodriguez also won in the Cup of Nations and the Second and Fourth Award Best Speaker of the tournament held in the Colombian capital of Bogota during the 20th to 29th July.
For the first time in its history the Debate Club of the University of Murcia has reached the final at the World Debating Championship annually in all Spanish-speaking universities, concluded between the past 20 to July 29 at the headquarters of dispute Universidad del Rosario in Bogota, Colombia.
Murcia delegation, under the academic direction of Professor of Constitutional Law Luis Alberto Gálvez Muñoz, was represented by Sergio Melero Hernández and Pilar Rodriguez Losantos as participants in the tournament and Manuel Antonio Paredes Montesinos as judge of it and participating in the Spanish selection Cup of Nations tournament held parallel with the World where only judges and trainers of the clubs from participating.
The team from the University of Murcia reached the final, after finishing as fourth in the previous rounds, in which participated 108 teams from more than 50 universities around the world.
In that final they were measured at the University of Rosario, which was finally winning the championship.
In turn, Manuel Paredes, got the victory for Spain against Chile in the Nations Cup, after being unbeaten in all the meetings that took place in that category Championship.
The individual entries, Pilar Rodriguez won the award for the second best speaker of the tournament, while Sergio Melero was placed fourth among the more than 250 participants that it disputed.
Manuel Paredes, who is also the current President of the Debate Club said that "this is a historic result for such a modest club like ours, which has managed to live up to major universities with a long history in this area and notables resources, demonstrating the great work from the University of Murcia is being exerted in promoting oratory and debate. "
