The teachers of the University of Murcia Maria Rosario Vidal-Abarca and Maria Luisa Suarez are the authors of the electronic publication "The assessment of ecosystem services applied to fisheries management", which deals with the crisis of fisheries in Spain .
The work is also intended as a tool for policy decisions on fisheries management in the country, with special emphasis in Andalusia and Murcia.
From the results of the work, it appears that the crisis we are undergoing the Spanish fisheries, due to overexploitation of national fisheries, it seems solved with measures and policies to protect commercial species.
For this reason, the study promotes the management of fishing activities "within the framework of socio-ecosystem, based on the complex interactions between humans and ecological systems and overcoming the current administrative boundaries", defends Suarez teacher.
This project is funded by the European Fisheries Fund and the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment.
