The University of Murcia develops a research project that is evaluating the inclusion of products used in the manufacture of beer in feed larvae and fry golden with immune purposes.
The research, carried out with the beer company Estrella de Levante, assesses the suitability of these products, rich in protein, for use in feed larvae and fish fry and even to replace fishmeal as main ingredient thereof.
The project, which is responsible researcher Professor Maria Angeles Esteban, Department of Cell Biology and Histology, seeks to demonstrate that use of these products as animal feed can strengthen the immune system of the larvae and young fish aquaculture.
Thus, it is expected to achieve an improvement in the fodder and the immune system of fish that result in a reduction of the high mortality rates that occur in the larval stages.
Furthermore, the use of this enriched feed may also affect the growth rates of the larvae, facilitating the process of fattening.
