The Cajamurcia Cultural Hall (Gran Vía, Murcia) will host tomorrow, Wednesday, May 27, the documentary "Back to the Future: the value of sustainable fishing," which illustrates the history and tradition of artisanal fisheries the Mediterranean coast of the Iberian southeast.
Through the voices and the personal stories of the fishermen themselves, this documentary highlights the problems of the artisanal fisheries sector, it evolves over decades, expectations for the future and fishermen the potential role of MPAs as a management tool and preservation of the environment and fisheries.
The documentary was produced by Damian Rubio under the project PescaSOS Columbares Association, with script and production Lorenzi Miguel Romano, from an original idea by Jose Antonio Garcia Charton and own Miguel Romano Lorenzi, both researchers in the group Marine Ecology and Conservation of the Department of Ecology and Hydrology at the University of Murcia.
The PescaSOS project, which has sought to contribute to the sustainable conservation of fisheries resources and the economic development of areas of Murcia-Almeria coastline, has been funded by the European Fisheries Fund and the Biodiversity Foundation of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment.
Following the documentary, a panel discussion on the subject treated will be held in the short.
