The candidate proposes renowned professionals acting in 'Ambassadors' from Murcia to attract events and tourist activities in the town
The candidate for mayor of Murcia by the Popular Party, José Ballesta, took part today in a working meeting with representatives of the Association of Hotels and Tourist Accommodation (Ashomur), which has expressed its intention to 'promote' Murcia brand '' and has set the goal of "double the number of tourists visiting the city, surpassing the 500,000 annually."
"For this, we will get all year, and at least once a month, Murcia hosting the celebration of an event of international features such as SOS, which this weekend will bring more than 75,000 visitors," has explained Ballesta, who added that "it is increasing tourist traffic during the offseason, through major events such as scientific and medical congresses, gastronomic weeks and sports events".
The municipality of Murcia has a total of 4,400 hotel rooms and last year recorded a total of 370,000 tourists.
"The goal we are duplicate and exceed half a million, ie more than the total traffic registered in the Murcia coast," he pointed José Ballesta.
In this regard, he stressed that tourism policy must be transversal, "betting on a clean, safe Murcia, well connected with the best services, work that we perform not only from the Department of Tourism, but from the entire City Council ".
Ambassadors of Murcia
One of the figures that play an important role as far as tourism promotion is concerned is that of the 'Ambassadors of Honor', internationally renowned professionals, born in this land that bear the name of Murcia beyond our borders and will sponsor the organization of thematic events in the town, linked to their professional sector.
"We have excellent athletes, doctors, writers, scientists, chefs and other large professional whose career involves a benchmark, we want to link with the image of our city," he pointed the mayoral candidate.
Tourist inventory
Another measure proposed is the creation of an 'Inventory of tourism resources' of the 55 districts Murcia.
"We want to collect and to value each unique elements that bring added value to the town, and turn them into tourism products, offering new packages to lengthen the average stay of those who visit us, and increase their average spending "he concluded.
