The nature and animal park Terra Natura Murcia has been admitted to the European conservation program giraffes.
As a result, the complex will receive three new Baringo giraffes ((Giraffa camaleopardalis rothschildi) during this month and next May. Two of these specimens come from the zoo Leper (Belgium) and the other copy of the Rio Safari Elche. This subspecies which has been allocated by the program is the most endangered of the nine subspecies of giraffes exist in the world.
The heads of animals in the park began proceedings to be included in this conservation program in July 2014, but has not until now that have managed to be admitted to this project.
The European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA) requires zoos meet certain requirements, among which is that the outdoor installation and interior shelters have conditions and specific surface measurements.
In addition, to form part of these programs is essential to develop management programs of these implanted in the European Endangered Species Programme (EEP) animals.
The three specimens are males, but have different ages.
Specifically, Atos is 16 and stands 6 feet tall, Bakari is 7 and measures about 5 meters and Albert is the youngest of all, with only 2 years old and 4 feet high.
The transport of these animals will be made with a specialized company.
The vehicle is prepared for these animals and has surveillance cameras for viewing the animal during the journey.
The team accompanying animals shall consist of two persons, a driver and a veterinarian.
The animals will be monitored constantly by the veterinarian.
Once arriving at Terra Natura Murcia, will be the veterinarian of the park to take charge of them.
