San Antonio Catholic University of Murcia hosts this afternoon the II International Conference on Prevention of Sports Injuries and XXIII National Conference of Sports Traumatology.
Pablo Blesa, rector of International Relations and Communication UCAM;
Ricardo Leiva, director of Sports of the Spanish Olympic Committee;
José Luis Martínez Romero, co-director of the Department of Sports Traumatology UCAM;
and Pedro Emilio Alcaraz, director of the Research Centre in High Performance Sports UCAM inaugurated a conference bringing together for three days on the campus of Los Jeronimos experts, researchers, teachers and students interested in the field of sports traumatology.
Ricardo Leiva welcomed attendees and invited them to enjoy each paper and draw on the experience of learning in the UCAM: "The Spanish Olympic Committee has long partnered with the Catholic University of Murcia for the great work they do on behalf of sport. These days are another example as the health and welfare of athletes must be one of our main concerns. "
Pablo Blesa affected the international congress because "only opening the doors of the university to the world we can all benefit from the exchange of knowledge."
Pedro Emilio Alcaraz stressed that "is the second international edition of this congress but twenty-three national editions which gives an idea of ​​the path that has already been done in previous years. From the point of view of medicine, physiotherapy and Training will address the issue of tendinopathy is one of the most common injuries in sports ".
One of the issues on which it will affect insurance during all presentations will be the prevention, since it is the main theme of the congress.
Dr. Martínez Romero said that "prevention is never enough because it does not hurt anyone invest time or money. This conference and the Group for the Prevention of Sports Injuries were created precisely to work in that field."
Once initiated the conference, Cristoph Spang, a researcher at the University of Umea (Sweden), he gave the inaugural lecture: Involvement of the small plantar tendon in Achilles tendinopathy.
Some of the conclusions of the work of Professor Spang is a world first which have been presented for the first time in Murcia.
The conference will continue tomorrow in the Temple of the Monastery of Jeronimos, highlighting the presentation of some of the conclusions of the Injury Prevention in Sport and workshop offered in the UCAM Sports Center Jaime Benito, physiotherapist and retrofitted Real Madrid.
