The Governing Board approved a grant of 130,000 euros to the Association of Members Collaborating Convention Bureau, 30% more than last year.
The congresses left in the town more than 110 million euros in the last four years
Murcia City Council encourages the celebration in the town of conferences, events and meetings in a clear commitment to business tourism as an economic lever.
The Board of Governors has approved a grant of 130,000 euros, 30% more than last year, in order to continue working for Murcia to host conferences.
The Department of Tourism, headed by Miguel Cascales, has doubled the grant to the Association of Members Collaborating Convention Bureau in the last four years, from 60,000 euros to 130,000 euros.
Congresses, conventions, conferences and seminars have left in the last four years in the municipality more than 110 million euros.
These meetings in 2013 generated an economic impact of EUR 28.16 million and accounted assistance of 188,884 people, 9.3% more than in 2012, which was 172,799 people.
During 2013 40 meetings were organized with the participation of 14,885 people;
38 convention with 5,920 attendees and 635 workshops and seminars with the participation of 168 079 delegates.
The average attendance is 265 people per event.
The average expenditure per congressman and day is between 215 euros for people who stay in four-star hotels, and 190 euros for people who stay in hotels of three stars.
This expenditure includes the registration fee, accommodation, meals and other extras such as internal transport, consumer culture and leisure and shopping.
Miguel Cascales stressed that Murcia, its climate, its services and its cuisine is ideal for hosting these events city, and most of Congress (92% according to surveys that handles Convention Bureau) would Murcia as a tourist.
The Convention Bureau of the City of Murcia was founded in 1998 with the participation of public and private companies to promote Murcia to host conferences.
Among the partners of the Office include hotels, restaurants, bars, travel agencies, advertising agencies and event organizers, taxis, rental cars, etc.
The Office, which is headquartered in Annex Auditorium Victor Villegas, is responsible for the coordination of supply and demand for city services, preparation of specific technical dossiers, organization of reconnaissance visits to Murcia, discounts on transport for Congress, institutional and technical support to the organizers of events, delivery of promotional material and overview of Murcia, broadcast media and nominations for national conferences with high participation held in Murcia.
