A doctoral thesis at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Murcia has developed a strategy for improving efficiency when sex selection for improved fertility results.
The research, in which the author, David Llanos del Olmo, has obtained excellent cum laude, presents a useful method of laparoscopic insemination using a very low number of separate sperm by flow cytometry.
The dissertation concludes that "laparoscopic insemination procedure developed is an effective and applicable method under farm conditions to obtain the desired sex offspring."
Also notes that "double insemination protocol using between three and six million sperm separated by sow, allows for adequate reproductive parameters, making the technology esperática separation by flow cytometry is potentially applicable in core breeding in swine. "
The research was led by professors at the University of Murcia Emilio Parrilla Arsenio Martínez and Immaculate Riera.
