IU-Green echoes a report that values of "inadequate" municipal investment in the tram becomes (13/02/2015)

Councilman IU-Greens in the city of Murcia, José Ignacio Tornel, described as "very enlightening" the report published by the journal bus lane, which is assessed as "inadequate" municipal investment in the tram system and proposes other more efficient model.

Specifically, the report's author, Gregory Carmona, handles data that speak of 53 million euros passenger invested in this transport system and catalog investment as "inadequate" for the intended purpose.

Also, Carmona raised in the document that the tram route occupies areas of high accessibility of cars, while neglecting "the axes of greatest demand and consolidated in central areas".

According Tornel, this should be added the position of the former Public Transport, "fall from grace as a result of his criticism of Municipal Mobility Plan subject to the requirements of the tram."

Among the causes of this situation, the report highlights arguments defended by IU-Green repeatedly.

"Fundamentally, the excessive size of the infrastructure already in comparison with the needed service."

This disproportion, according to Tornel, is based on the lack of rigorous mobility plans before creating transport systems pure electoral interest.

"The tram was inaugurated in electoral Murcia single year and in December 2013 the City adopted its Municipal Mobility Plan; ie the world upside down".

Finally, "the multiplicity of operating companies, rather than unify the management, has served to increase the structural overruns and missed synergies."

The report proposes the installation of BANS (bus high level of service) suitable for occupancy between 10,000 and 50,000 passengers a day, and cost three times less than the tram.

Or AHL (Trolley), adapted to demands from 15,000 to 60,000 passengers / day, without catenary, 100% electric, silent and without CO2 emissions.

"It seems that the intention was to provoke an unnecessary economic investment when systems are much more efficient and less costly transportation," said Tornel, while stressed that "we do not believe in coincidences or ignorance of our managers. The Tram has not been built at zero cost to the citizens and the mayor promised to hit book but 11 million per year for 17 kilometers of route ".
