A doctoral thesis at the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Murcia has shown that Aleppo pine needles are effective as adsorbents for the removal of heavy metals from contaminated effluents.
The dissertation, with which its author, Javier Sánchez Pina, has obtained excellent cum laude, also proposes the use of a technology that represents a sustainable alternative and low cost compared to treatments used so far, more expensive and dependent in many cases of petroleum products.
To carry out this research, Javier Sánchez used this material for decontamination of effluents from Spanish of Zinc and other company also located in the Region of Murcia.
Of the analyzed possibilities concluded that the greatest power adsorbent was achieved with the use of pine needles.
The dissertation was supervised by professors from the University of Murcia Llorens Mercedes Pascual of Riquelme and Victor Zapata Francisco Meseguer.
