The Ministry of Education, Culture and Universities allocated this year to the Museum of the Cathedral of Murcia 95,000 euros to support and continue its work to support and promote the cultural heritage of the Region of Murcia.
This was stated by the Minister of Education, Culture and Universities, Pedro Antonio Sánchez, who held this week a working meeting with the leadership of the museum and visited their facilities.
At the meeting, the significant increase in visitors experienced the Cathedral Museum, which came to 18,176, with an average of almost 1,500 visitors per month are highlighted.
"More and more people in the region, in Spain and abroad who visit the important collection that features the Cathedral Museum and in 2014 managed to attract 300 people each month over half, demonstrating the good work being done, "said Pedro Antonio Sánchez.
After the meeting, the Minister visited the museum occupies the chapter and part of the ancient cloister of the fourteenth century Cathedral of Murcia.
On the ground floor you can see pieces like Campana Mora, the Muses Sarcophagus of the third century AD, the altarpiece of Barnaba da Modena fourteenth century Gothic altarpiece of San Miguel, the Roman sarcophagus box used in 1552 to house body Junterón Gil Rodriguez, the Ark of the Museum of Holy Thursday and Corpus Custody of Antonio Pérez de Montalvo.
Also upstairs is the Marriage of the Virgin and the Adoration of the Shepherds, Fernando de Llanos, the Reliquary Bust of Priscillian and image of St. Jerome Penitent, Francisco Salzillo.
Visitors to the Museum of the Cathedral can also enjoy the findings brought to light remodeling.
A wooden walkway, metal and glass lets see -part subsurface archaeological remains of the old mosque on which sits the Catedral-, giving an idea of ​​constructive evolution over the centuries.
