Councilwoman Equality Policy and Development Cooperation, Alicia Barquero, participates today in Rome at the European Conference on Citizenship and Twinning with a presentation on the importance of the involvement of local governments in development cooperation.
Barquero is a member of the Committee for Development Cooperation of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces, and is in Rome, at other Spanish representatives, participating in the European Conference.
Edil Murcia presented this afternoon a presentation on the experience of the city of Murcia and the FEMP on development cooperation, highlighting the importance of local governments to take action to raise awareness and participation, as they are the closest institution.
Barquero present the actions carried out within the program Educating Developing NGO'S allowing the municipality themselves known through activities such as lectures, exhibitions, screenings, Peace Camp missions, charity runs, etc.
In addition, the city of Murcia has participated in several projects to exchange experiences with Latin America and the creation of a tourism consortium in Ecuador and advice on waste management in Cochabamba (Bolivia).
